El Catio Costa Rica
El Catio is a cat space in Barrio Escalante, San José, behind La Gatería, a veterinary clinic for cats on Avenida 11 between Calles 35 and 37. It opened in 2022 and calls itself a “laboratory of experiences” with rescued cats: besides cat cafe visits, called “michiterapia” and including coffee or tea, it runs cat yoga and pilates classes, meditation, coworking days, talks and craft workshops among the cats. In 2023 nine cats lived there permanently and rescued kittens arrived regularly from the street or from shelters; they were checked by a vet before being put up for adoption, and adopters fill in an application and a responsibility form. A visitor in July 2026 counted 29 cats and noted that the space runs on volunteers and donations. It is run by veterinarians who specialise in cats and feline behaviour. Visits are by reservation only, to limit numbers for the cats’ sake, booked by WhatsApp, phone or Instagram. In 2023 no food was sold; visitors could bring snacks but not feed the cats.

Coffee Cat Café is a cat cafe in Uvita de Osa, Puntarenas, 350 metres east of the BCR bank, in the surf town near Marino Ballena National Park. It first opened at City Place in Santa Ana, west of San José, in 2023, and its Uvita cafe officially opened on 16 July 2024. The cafe sells coffee, bubble tea, smoothies and baked goods, and a separate air-conditioned cat lounge holds ten or more rescued cats and kittens, all available for adoption. The cats come from rescue groups including Asopet in San José and El Refugio in Uvita, as well as private fosters, and are spayed or neutered, tested for FeLV and FIV, vaccinated and dewormed. Entry to the lounge is free with a drink or food purchase, or ₡3,000 per person, with no time limit. There is no minimum age, but children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult. To adopt, visitors meet the cats at the cafe and then apply to the rescue group that placed the cat, which sets its own adoption fee.

Purr Vida Lounge

Purr Vida Lounge is a cat cafe and rescue in The Village Shopping Center in Brasilito, Guanacaste, next to CRIA International School, about 5 minutes from Playa Conchal, 10 minutes from Playa Flamingo and 20 minutes from Tamarindo, with free parking. It was founded by Miss Meow, a Japanese-American baker and cat rescuer who has lived in Costa Rica since 2017, and opened in early 2024. The air-conditioned lounge holds 20 or more rescued cats and kittens, which can be adopted; by October 2026 it counted more than 160 cats rescued since 2024 and more than 130 adopted. Visits are booked online or by WhatsApp in sessions of up to 10 guests. In October 2026 one hour cost US$20 per person and two hours US$30, paid on the day, with Miss Meow’s homemade drinks and snacks included. The lounge can be hired for private events and birthday parties, hosts cat yoga, craft classes and a business course for children, and sells cakes to order to fund the rescue.

Cleo Cat Café & Shop is a cat cafe on the ground floor of the PH Serenity at the Bay building on Calle Manuel de Jesús Quijano in San Francisco, Panama City, behind the Atlapa Convention Centre. It opened in March 2022 and describes itself as Panama’s first cat cafe. The cats were rescued from the streets, are sterilised and vaccinated, and are up for adoption through the independent rescuer Huellitas Panamá; adopters fill in a questionnaire, give two references and make a donation of at least US$40 towards vaccines, sterilisation and care. Gatitos Café

Gatitos Café is a Japanese-themed cat café in the Edificio Hernández on 4a Avenida Norte, in the Centro Histórico of San Salvador. Opened in April 2026, it describes itself as the country's first cat café; the project began earlier in Comayagua, Honduras. The café has two levels: a ground-floor café serving ramen, Japanese curry, Salvadoran-Japanese fusion dishes, themed drinks and kawaii pastries, and an upstairs cat area with a group of resident cats, most of them rescued from the streets or surrendered by former owners. Access to the cat area is by advance reservation in timed sessions, with package prices that include a drink and a snack and reduced rates for students and teenagers. Visitors disinfect their hands before entering, flash photography is not allowed and the cats have set rest periods. Some of the cats are offered for adoption.

Antigua Cat Cafe

Antigua Cat Cafe is a garden cat cafe in Sección A of San Pedro El Panorama, just south of the centre of Antigua Guatemala, 10 to 15 minutes from Parque Central by shared transport or tuk-tuk. Its director, Angela Kerslake from Canada, set it up with Emily Reilly and Luis Callejas after more than 16 years of rescue work in Guatemala, and it calls itself the first cat cafe in Central America. About a dozen rescued cats, among them a black cat called Frijol who inspired the logo, live there permanently and are not up for adoption. In October 2026 visiting the cats cost Q55 per person booked online and more at the door, drinks not included; the cafe itself is free to enter and has Wi-Fi and indoor and outdoor seating. It opens Thursday to Sunday only, with daytime hours for most of the year and evening hours in November and December, and stays closed Monday to Wednesday so the cats can rest. Smoking, alcohol, pets and feeding the cats are not allowed. Volunteers can stay on site.
Popoki Poke Bowl

Popoki Poke Bowl is a poke bowl cafe on Alamina Drive in Caye Caulker village, Belize, a few minutes' walk from Front Street, with a shaded garden cat area at the back. Its owners, Carin and Mica, run the cat side as a small rescue they call the Caulker Cat Crew: they take in strays and litters found on the island and offer them for adoption, and some have gone to homes abroad, including one in California.
