Chico Cat Café, at 1725 Esplanade in Chico, California, was the city's first cat café. It opened in 2022 as The Great Catsby and later took the Chico Cat Café name to better reflect its community roots. Set in a French-inspired space styled after the 1910s and 1920s, it served as a temporary foster home for rescue cats and kittens, partnering with local groups such as Stillwater Cat Haven, ResQpaws, Perfect Paws Animal Advocates and KAT Charities, and saved more than 80 at-risk cats in its first year alone. Visitors could spend time with 12 to 15 adoptable cats in a cage-free lounge, with complimentary coffee, a separate snack room, the Nine Lives Wine Lounge (21+) and a student co-working lounge. The café closed permanently in September 2025.
