CAT CAFE MACHIKO
CAT CAFE MACHIKO is a rescue cat cafe on the second floor of a building in Murasakino, Kita Ward, Kyoto, near Funaokayama Park and between Daitoku-ji and Kinkaku-ji. It pre-opened on October 6, 2026 and held its grand opening on October 10, 2026. Fourteen cats live at the cafe; it calls them rescue cats, and some are former pets whose owners could no longer keep them. Visits are charged by time and drinks are served; food was dropped from the menu shortly after opening so that staff could focus on caring for the cats. Children aged three and under enter free. The interior mixes British classic and Showa-retro styles, with antique furniture more than a century old. Staff welcome visitors in English, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Nepali and Thai. The cafe opens at 11 AM and closes an hour later on weekends and holidays than on weekdays.
