碧耳貓 BeerCat
BeerCat (碧耳貓) is a craft beer bar at No. 8 Chang'an West Road in Taipei's Zhongshan District, a short walk from Zhongshan MRT station and Chengde Park. Two resident cats live in the bar, get up to greet people who walk in and settle by the counter, where customers can stroke them. About ten taps pour mostly Taiwanese craft beer with some American and Japanese guests, and the fridge holds cans from small breweries. The kitchen sends out Japanese-style bar food such as takoyaki and curry cheese udon. The walls are hung with Japanese rock band towels and posters, and J-Rock sets the mood. It is an evening bar that stays open late, so check its Instagram page for event nights and delayed openings.

Mask Cat
Taipei City0.1 mi / 0.2 km
Mask Cat (貓妝自家烘焙咖啡館) is a cat-themed coffee shop on Chang'an West Road in Datong District, Taipei, opposite the Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei and a short walk from Zhongshan MRT station. Opened in 2002, it is one of Taipei's older independent cafes and roasts its own coffee. The owner, a former art teacher, filled the room with cat paintings, murals and ornaments. Two resident cats, an orange cat that sleeps most of the day and an aloof black cat, live in the shop and wander among the tables. The menu covers house-roasted coffee, ice-drip coffee, fruit and flower teas, homemade cakes and tarts, waffles, hot-pressed sandwiches and rice dishes. There is no time limit on weekdays and no service charge, and Wi-Fi and power outlets make it popular for working. It closes early, at 6 PM, on Tuesdays.

The bright, tidy room holds a library of more than a hundred board games, and friendly staff teach the rules, so it suits newcomers as well as regular players. Play is charged by time, at around NT$100 per hour, with day passes available, and the bar serves carefully made drinks. Guests must be at least 12 years old. It is a good pick for a group that wants an afternoon of games with feline company rather than a dedicated cat lounge. Booking a table ahead is recommended.
