Akasawa Neko Cafe & Dining
Akasawa Neko Cafe & Dining is a rescue cat cafe in a two-storey house with cat ears on its roof in Nakashiobara, in the Shiobara Onsen area of Nasushiobara, about 10 minutes on foot from the Akasawa Onsen Ryokan inn that runs it. Friendly rescued cats and kittens live in a spacious, open interior with separate areas for play and rest, and some cats have already gone to new homes from here. Visits are charged per hour with tea included, and extensions are charged in 10-minute steps; guests staying at the inn get two hours for the price of one. The cafe opened in 2026 and is in a pre-opening period, open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays around midday, and it may open at other times or stay later on request, so calling ahead is recommended. It makes an easy break during a Shiobara hot spring trip.

Hidamari Neko Sabou is a breeder-run cat cafe in Dosawa, in the Imaichi area of Nikko. Many cats live here, including breeds such as Maine Coons, and there are often kittens; kittens bred by the owners are sold, and some cats are also offered for adoption. Visitors spend time with the cats in a relaxed, old Japanese house-style lounge with toys provided, ordering one drink with their visit, and at opening time the cats tend to pour out of their sleeping holes to greet the first guests, so arriving early is recommended. Socks must be worn, and visitors are not allowed to feed the cats treats. Reservations can be made by phone but are not required. The business also runs a pet hotel for dogs and cats. Neko no Ichigoyasan
Utsunomiya, Tochigi30 mi / 48 km
Neko no Ichigoyasan is a rescue cat cafe in Yanaze, Utsunomiya, run by a local strawberry farm. It opened as a cat cafe in August 2024, and in January 2025 it took in 23 cats from the Nekomiya cat cafe when that cafe closed, becoming a rescue cafe where cats wait for new homes. Walk-ins are accepted, but visitors with reservations made through the official LINE account are seated first, and weekends can be busy. Socks must be worn in the cat room; thin or sheer socks, tights and stockings are not allowed. There is parking, though car-sharing is encouraged on weekends. Cat-themed sweets and alcoholic drinks are served, children aged three and under enter free and elementary school children pay half. Reservations by phone or LINE get priority.
