Corner Cat Coffee's Chihkan Tower branch sits in West Central District, Tainan, inside the Chihkan East Street Japanese dormitories, a row of wooden former police quarters listed as a city historic building in 2016. The Kaohsiung-born cat cafe has kept the old timber structure, and its cats, including Ragdolls and British Shorthairs, roam the Japanese-style corridors and a glass-walled cat room off the dining area. There are tatami rooms suited to families, and children are welcome. Booking ahead is strongly advised. Each guest spends at least NT$280, and visits are limited to two hours. Treats can be bought to feed the cats. The kitchen serves grilled rice ball sets that turn into tea-soaked rice with broth, quesadillas, quiche, cat-shaped egg cakes, coffee and roasted tea lattes, with some dishes offered only at weekends.

Wu Meow Café (吾喵咖啡) is a small neighbourhood cat cafe tucked into a residential lane in Annan District, Tainan, close to the Costco store on Fu'an Road. It is run by its owners with two resident cats who wander the quiet, homely room, greet guests at the window and are happy to be stroked and photographed. The menu leans on homemade and local produce: house-baked bread and salt butter rolls, handmade dumplings, avocado from the owners' own trees, small-farm vegetables, free-range eggs, brownies, Basque cheesecake, waffles, and coffee roasted in-house, alongside pour-overs and roasted wheat tea lattes. The minimum spend is NT$120 per person. Guests are asked to close the door carefully when coming and going so the cats do not slip outside. The space can also be booked for workshops and private use.

Dou Zai Man Shi Jian (都在漫食間) is a cat-themed brunch restaurant on Linsen Road in East District, Tainan, where four resident cats share the dining room with guests. The cats are calm and gentle, lounging by the windows, under chairs and sometimes on the tables. Some will accept a stroke, while others prefer to watch, so guests should let them choose. The kitchen serves brunch platters, pan-fried chicken leg, slow-cooked curry rice, pasta with clams and other Italian-style dishes, desserts such as crème brûlée, and coffee and lattes. Tables can be booked online, which is a good idea at weekends, and a dining time limit applies when the restaurant is busy. Parents should supervise children around the cats.

Mao Yan Mao Yu (貓言貓語) is a quiet cafe in a restored old house in North District, Tainan, a short walk from Tainan railway station. It is hidden in a narrow alley; the easiest way in is from Beimen Road, turning in at Fulong Temple. The house keeps its vintage character, with a small courtyard open to the sky, and two resident cats, an orange tabby and a tuxedo, wander between the tables, greet arriving guests and nap in the sun. The menu covers brunch dishes such as chicken leg steak and rice bowls, waffles, cakes and seasonal shaved ice, including a popular mango milk ice in summer. It is a relaxed, unhurried place to sit with a dessert and the cats rather than a busy cat lounge.

Sangu Cat Cafe (參古貓咖啡) is a small, bright cat cafe on Fuguo 1st Road in Yongkang District, Tainan. Its resident cats act as staff: the outgoing Haji greets guests at their tables and invites a stroke, while the cooler Milk Tea holds the title of deputy manager. The cats are affectionate and often jump straight onto the table. The room is kept clean and odour-free. Shoes come off at the door, the minimum spend is one drink per person, and children under six are not admitted for their safety. LUMI de MAISON (柔光與貓) is a cat cafe and cat hotel in a 50-year-old house on Shengli Street in Yongkang District, Tainan, licensed as an animal exhibition venue. The owners spent a year restoring the building before opening in early 2026. On the ground floor, the dining room is kept separate from two cat rooms, which are linked by a transparent overhead tunnel the cats use to cross the shop. Guests can watch through large windows and enter the cat rooms to stroke and play with the cats when they are opened for visits, using the wand toys provided. Hands are sanitised before entry. Zao Miao Shi Si (早喵食肆) is a small cat-themed breakfast and lunch shop on Linsen Road in East District, Tainan, run by a chef with more than ten years of five-star hotel kitchen experience. Cat motifs fill the room, from the clock to the dishes, and the shop also acts as a foster point for rescue kittens. Through an arrangement with an animal shelter, young cats waiting for homes live in the shop, so diners can meet them and staff will help if you would like to hold one. Adoption is the aim, and anyone interested can ask the owners. The roughly fifteen seats fill quickly. The menu is generous and inexpensive: clam noodle soup, iron-plate noodles with chicken leg, pork chop and chicken plates, Tainan-style batter egg pancakes, toast and burgers, plus coffee and tea.

Bo Ji (波吉) is a small, pet-friendly brunch restaurant on Linsen Road in East District, Tainan, best known for its resident animals: three to four friendly cats and a Chihuahua who keep diners company inside. The cats are well cared for and happy to be stroked. The animals have set working days, and the shop posts on Instagram which of its little managers are on duty. The entrance faces the main road, not the lane behind. Seating is limited, so it is worth calling ahead to book, especially if you want an indoor table near the cats. The menu is good value: signature brunch platters, French toast with honey, pan-fried chicken leg steak, sous-vide meats, bagels, bacon and German sausage, with coffee and tea.

The cooking focuses on natural ingredients: vegetable stocks simmered in-house, French-style cream sauces, cold-pressed olive oil, salmon pasta, herb chicken risotto, beef bourguignon, brownies and lemon tart, with lattes and brown sugar milk tea. Booking ahead is recommended on weekdays, and dinner is available by advance order. The space hosts private gatherings and handicraft classes. The cats occasionally take time off.
