Katzentempel ⁠‌‌​​‌​‌​‌​​‌​​​‌​​‌​‌‌​‌‌​​​​‌​‌‌‌‌​​‌‌​⁠München Maxvorstadt is a vegan restaurant with resident cats on Türkenstraße in Maxvorstadt, a few minutes on foot from Universität U-Bahn station (U3/U6), Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität and the Englischer Garten. Opened in 2013 by Thomas Leidner and Kathrin Karl, it was the first Katzentempel and Munich's first cat cafe, one of the first in Germany, and it is now the flagship of a franchise with branches across the country. About six cats taken in from animal welfare organisations live here permanently, so they are not up for adoption. They move around the room on high walkways, beds and hammocks and have a retreat closed to guests, and they decide for themselves when to approach visitors. There is no entry fee: guests order from the fully plant-based menu of breakfast, burgers, bowls, cakes and coffee drinks. Tables can be reserved online, and cat sponsorships, vouchers and merchandise are sold.

It opened in November 2025 in the ZAM district centre on Mahatma-Gandhi-Platz in Freiham, the new quarter on the western edge of the city, close to Freiham S-Bahn station. Five cats from animal rescue, all born in spring 2025, live here permanently and are not for adoption. They roam the dining room freely, have climbing areas and a retreat closed to guests, and house rules explain how visitors should treat them. There is no entry fee; guests order from a fully plant-based menu of breakfast, salads, burgers, cakes, matcha and coffee drinks. On weekday mornings a work-friendly offer lets guests stay with a laptop or a book on an hourly drinks flat rate. The branch also hosts cat yoga followed by a buffet, speed-friending evenings and seminars on keeping cats.
