Catnap Cafe is a cat cafe at 391 Colombo Street in Sydenham, Christchurch, opened in July 2018 by Nate and Alyssa, long-time volunteers with Cat Rescue Christchurch, after a Kickstarter campaign; it bills itself as Christchurch's first cat cafe. It works as a big foster home: around 15 to 18 rescue cats and kittens live there at a time, all desexed, vaccinated and microchipped, and they are adopted through Cat Rescue Christchurch directly at the cafe. A 55-minute session in the cat area costs NZ$18 per person, with drinks and food bought separately; the cafe serves coffee and sweet treats, and all its food, hot chocolate and chai are vegan. Children must be at least 5 and supervised by an adult, and booking is highly recommended. It opens Wednesday to Sunday from 10 AM to 5 PM, and evening events include cat yoga, movie nights and retro gaming.
