Le Carolo Cat

Le Carolo Cat is a cat adoption cafe on Rue de Marcinelle in Charleroi's lower town, opposite the Rive Gauche shopping centre, near Place Verte and Tirou metro station. Carole Van Brakel opened it in 2021 in partnership with the SPA de Charleroi, the city's animal shelter, and up to ten of the shelter's cats live in the cafe at a time while they wait for new homes. Several hundred cats have been adopted through the cafe, with the paperwork done through the shelter. The kitchen serves homemade lunches and pastries with coffee and tea, and the shop corner sells gifts and decorative items. There is a terrace at the back, and the cafe runs breakfasts, themed evenings, creative workshops and children's birthday parties. It is open from Wednesday to Saturday.
