浪愛有家中途貓協會
Lang Ai You Jia (浪愛有家中途貓協會) is a stray-cat foster and adoption association at 236 Minsheng Road in Wufeng District, Taichung, set up to turn street cats into home cats. It began as a cat restaurant serving a hotpot and salad buffet, but the restaurant has since closed and the cats remain. Visitors pay NT$100 to spend up to two hours with them in a large, clean room, and socks are required. Most of the cats are friendly and climb straight onto laps, though a few are shy, so wide trouser legs are best avoided. Staff help match visitors with cats, and anyone who wants to adopt can meet them first and ask at the counter. It is open daily, with shorter hours on weekdays.

貓多多飯館 is a no-frills neighbourhood eatery on Chenggong 2nd Road in Dali District, Taichung, whose name promises 'lots of cats', and it delivers. A large group of friendly cats roams the simple, air-conditioned dining room and is happy to be stroked, and the place is notably free of cat smell. Unlike most cat restaurants, it keeps prices low and serves home-style Chinese food: generous fried rice (the green pepper beef is a favourite), fried noodles, and soup noodles such as tomato-based cat's ear pasta soup, with free black tea. The owner took in its three or four resident cats from the street, some of them still recovering when they arrived, and likes to tell guests each cat's story; the friendliest ones settle on diners' laps, and visitors are sometimes asked whether they would like to adopt. The kitchen makes pasta (the squid and prawn one is a favourite), risottos, Japanese curry rice and fried snack platters, and a set with a drink and pudding costs about NT$250; in the afternoon there are croissant sets, yogurt cheesecake and tea jelly. Payment is cash only, and parking nearby is easy.
花舞貓咖啡

花舞貓咖啡 is a small, quiet cafe at the end of a dead-end lane off Wuquan South Road in Taichung's South District, near National Chung Hsing University. Its cats live semi-free-roaming lives, wandering in and out of the cafe and along the lane, so sightings vary; they tend to gather in the late afternoon, when the owner puts out their food. Visitors may play with them using the wand toys provided, but should not pick them up or feed them. There is no time limit, seats have power sockets, and the cafe suits studying, small gatherings and handicraft classes, with private rooms available to rent. Prices are modest: coffee from award-winning beans, homemade bread and snacks, tea, and a growing range of savoury dishes.
