Itonya-go
Itonya-go is a rescue cat shelter and cafe in Hara, Sawara Ward, Fukuoka, run by the Fukuoka Animal Welfare Association. Its name refers to the German Tierheim, or animal shelter, and its main purpose is to find homes for cats taken in from animal welfare centres and from households with too many cats. More than 20 cats live here, and all of them are available for adoption after a screening that checks for allergies, living conditions and the household's means. Visiting more than once with the whole family is encouraged. Visits are charged per hour, with rates for adults and for elementary and junior high school students, a day pass and free drinks. Reservations are not taken. It is closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays and over Obon and New Year, and has one parking space. The association also offers pet sitting, grooming and boarding, and holds monthly adoption events.
