Cat Haven Cat Cafe
Baton Rouge, Louisiana56 mi / 90 km
Cat Haven Cat Cafe is part of the new home of Cat Haven, Baton Rouge's oldest rescue dedicated only to cats, on Shadows Lane at the eastern end of Mid City, near Airline Highway. The nonprofit, founded in 1999, has rehomed more than 23,000 cats, and its 7,200-square-foot building replaces the old shelter on North Harrells Ferry Road. It has a cage-free adoption area with room for 125 cats and kittens in more than 23 separate living spaces, a surgical suite and the city's first cat cafe, a lounge where all the cats are up for adoption. A 50-minute session costs $15 including tax. College students and active or former military get a discount, and the lounge holds up to eight cats and eight guests at a time. Walk-ins are welcome when there is space, but reservations are strongly encouraged. The cafe's posted hours are 11 AM to 7 PM Monday to Saturday and 11 AM to 5 PM on Sunday. A self-serve coffee machine by the front desk makes coffee, espresso drinks and tea, and coffee can be added when you book; packaged snacks are also sold. You can bring your own food and drink as long as none of it goes to the cats. All ages are welcome, but under-16s need a parent or guardian aged 21 or older, and children may not pick up cats. Shoes come off in the lounge and socks are required; the cafe sells them if you forget. Guests may not pick up or hold the cats, and sleeping cats and those resting under the seat cubbies are left alone. Adoptions follow Cat Haven's application process.
