Kitten Coffee Garden (小貓花園), also known as Cafe Cats & Dogs, opened in 1998 in Taipei's Shilin District and is widely credited as the world's first cat cafe; in 2022 Guinness World Records named it the oldest cat cafe still in existence. It sits across the road from exit 1 of Zhishan station on the MRT Tamsui line. The owners opened it with their own five cats, and today about a dozen cats and two dogs live here; the oldest cat was born in 2010. There is no entry ticket, but each guest must spend at least NT$200, and drinks and desserts such as lattes and chocolate mousse cake start at about that price. Visits are limited to two hours, children under 12 are not admitted, payment is cash only, and only staff feed the animals. It is open from noon to 10pm and closed on Tuesdays and public holidays, and tables can be reserved by phone.
